"Talkin’ ‘bout my generation" Balancing the interests of rising & current generations of wealth owning families

Description

Released in 1965, The Who’s song, ‘My Generation’ became an anthem for youth, encapsulating the feelings of rebellion and a desire for independence that defined the counterculture of the era. The song is a cultural marker of the turbulent, transformative 1960s in the US, where social norms were being questioned and reshaped by a rising generation.

Nearly six decades on, new waves of wealth inheritors find themselves striving to amplify their voices and earn respect, as they fervently call for responsible stewardship of their legacies.

This panel session explores wealth planning through a multi-generational lens, examining how advisors can balance the interests of rising and current generations to help fortify families in their journeys as responsible wealth stewards.

Why watch?

Those working with multi-generational families should attend to explore how to design and implement structures that effectively balance the priorities and needs of multiple generations. Discussion will challenge attendees to think more holistically and broadly about how they advise, who they see as their client and the long term impact of their structuring and advice.

Discussion will address:

  • how to respect the vision of the founder while empowering the next generation;
  • how advisors design structures that are relevant for the next generation while preserving the success of the family business/wealth;
  • how trustees navigate decision making when different generational priorities and values arise; and
  • what duty of care is owed by advisors to families as a whole
