A sneak peek of your new STEP Journal

A sneak peek of your new STEP Journal

In October 2023, we shared with members the exciting news that the STEP Journal is moving to a digital platform. We will be launching the new STEP Journal website to coincide with the publication of Issue 3. This means that this will be your last print Journal.

The new digital Journal will have all of the same high-quality content our members have grown to expect, but with some extra features to make the experience much more engaging and personalised for all members whatever their background.

We are still working behind the scenes to ensure a smooth transition for our members, but we wanted to share a sneak peek of some of our favourite elements of the new digital Journal.

What to expect

The digital Journal will feature everything you’ve come to expect from your print copy – interesting articles on a range of topics, fantastic contributors and high-quality design. It has been built with mobile in mind, so you will have full functionality on whatever platform you choose to view it on. All articles will be tagged by topic area and country and you’ll be able to search our full back catalogue of Journal and Trust Quarterly Review (TQR) articles.

The Journal, your way

With My Journal, you will be able to curate your own personalised feed based on your preferences. Here, you can select the topics that interest you and the regions that are most relevant to your practice. You can also save articles to read for later – so you’ll always be able to find your favourite articles, from both the STEP Journal and the TQR, all in one convenient spot. You can also log articles as continuing professional development (CPD).

Each article on the new site allows space for members to immediately engage in reflective learning as part of their STEP CPD requirement, and this can be reviewed and updated in the ‘My CPD’ section of My Journal.

Interact and engage

The new platform will allow you to engage more with the content, as well as with other members. You will be able to do more than just read articles – as well as the above features, you will be able to comment, share, engage in polls and view a range of multimedia content. At the end of each article, you’ll find other articles related to the topic. You’ll also be able to view author profiles and see other articles they have contributed to the STEP Journal and the TQR.

Inclusive and accessible

Do you want to read the Journal in another language? Do you struggle with font sizes or certain colours? Would you prefer to listen to the articles? The digital Journal will provide instant accommodations to those with specific needs, such as ADHD- and dyslexia-friendly fonts and functions, the ability to pause flashing page elements that may trigger seizures in people with epilepsy and similar conditions, plus colour-blindness adaptations and a screen reader (with more than 50 languages available) for those with visual impairments.

We know it might be difficult for some members to read from a screen, even with all of these accessibility features, which is why you can also download and print articles to read in your own way.

We hope these functions will provide a safe, inclusive space for our members to enjoy the STEP Journal.
