On 13 May 2019, John Lawrence TEP was presented with a STEP Founder’s Award at the opening of the 20th STEP Caribbean Conference, hosted at the Baha Mar Hotel on May 12-15.

The first STEP Caribbean Conference was held in Nassau in 1999 and has since been hosted in 12 different jurisdictions around the Caribbean, with a combined total of over 7,000 delegates attending across the years, from 55 different countries.

John previously served as STEP’s worldwide Deputy Chair from 2012 to 2015. Additionally, he served as Chair of STEP’s Caribbean and Latin America Regional Committee from 2003 to 2010 and is an Emeritus Member of the STEP Caribbean Conference. John is currently a director of the Nassau-based Windermere group of companies, which provide estate and family officer services, as well as a director at Sterling Bank & Trust.

The STEP Founder’s Awards for outstanding achievement are presented annually. The awards are given to select members who have made an exceptional and outstanding long-term contribution to STEP above and beyond that which is normally expected of a member through office in their branch or elsewhere in the voluntary life of the Society. It is one of the highest and most prestigious awards granted in the STEP ecosystem.

The Platinum Sponsor of this year’s conference is the Ministry of Financial Services of the Bahamas. Minister Symonette was on hand for the presentation of the award. He commented that this was a fitting award for someone who has committed so much to STEP and has contributed in a significant way to the development of financial services in the Bahamas.
