Our Strategy

Our Strategic Plan

Our strategy to champion the big issues and raise our profile is starting to attract new members and increase engagement with members and stakeholders. While our vision, mission, and strategy form solid foundations, we must continue to adapt our approach and implementation of our strategy as the industry evolves. By doing so we can ensure that our strategy remains relevant and effective so that our members continue to be supported to deliver the highest level of service to their clients through unrivalled knowledge.

In setting our revised 2023-26 strategy, we have refined our strategic themes into four new headings:

1. Excelling in education:

STEP’s qualifications will become the global benchmark for the industry.

Education and the maintenance of high professional standards are at the very core of what STEP stands for. It is what our members expect from us, it is why they came to us and it is why they stay with us. We will ensure that our qualifications and continuing professional development continue to meet member and employer needs, are of high quality, and are of a consistent standard globally.

2. Raising our profile

STEP will be a world-leading authority on chosen topics with our expertise recognised and sought by policymakers, regulators, the media, and other key stakeholders.

Through thought leadership, we demonstrate capability and credibility. By defining those areas in which we are experts, we give confidence to our stakeholders and create demand for the profession and our members' expertise.

3. Increasing value to members

The value we create for members will encourage them to advocate and recommend STEP, leading to organic growth.

Through ensuring value and high levels of member satisfaction, we will strengthen our position in our core markets.

4. Empowering our people

We want all our people – members, volunteers, and staff – to grow and thrive through their relationship with STEP.

We will create an environment where all our people, regardless of background or personal circumstance, feel valued and included.

These four priorities are underpinned by a constant focus on the efficiency of the organisation and our infrastructure, to ensure we have the necessary resources and tools to deliver on our strategic goals.

Policy
STEP contributes to the public policy debate on trust and estate issues through active engagement with policymakers.
Governance
STEP has a clear organisational structure, from its Honorary Officers and governing bodies to regions, branches and chapters, committees and Special Interest Groups, and finally the staff.
