The STEP LatAm 2018 conference brought together delegates from around the world to the beautiful Hyatt Regency, Mexico City.

With over 375 attendees, 35 sponsors and 37 countries represented, the STEP LatAm 2018 conference brought together delegates from around the world to the beautiful Hyatt Regency, Mexico City.

Topics on the agenda ranged from blockchain to the common reporting standard, and delegates were encouraged to engage and connect with each other over the two-day event. Speakers included a number of noted experts and industry favorites, including Richard Hay TEP, Ryan Pinder and Dr Nicolás Malumián TEP.

The presenting sponsor for 2018 was the Bahamas Ministry of Financial Services, Trade and Industry and Immigration, who also hosted the Friday evening gala event at the historic Casino Español, in the heart of the old city. Another delegate favorite during the conference was the keynote address, ‘The Future of Offshore’, sponsored by Teton Trust Company and featuring noted international speaker Diego Zuluaga of the US-based Cato Institute.

This year was the first Thesis Writing Competition for students and young professionals. The STEP LatAm Board was pleased by both the quantity and quality of the submissions. The 2018 topic was ‘The Use of Trusts for Succession Planning in a LatAm Jurisdiction’, and the winner and runner-up were presented with their awards at this year’s conference.

It has been announced that the Conference will be returning in 2019, in São Paulo, Brazil. Conference organisers expect to be able to announce the date and hotel before the end of the year.
